reupholstering an arm chair...

....can now be added to our accomplishments in life. Yay, us. I spotted this rattan chair during my thrift spree last week and just couldn't stop thinking about it, so we went back a few days later. I convinced Q that it was the chair of my dreams and that we could "easily" recover the thing, so it went home with us.

After hours of ripping off fabric, pulling out staples, and figuring out what the heck to do (like standing in the foam aisle at Joann's and wondering what density/thickness we're supposed to get and why it costs $40 a yard), we have finally finished covering the seat.

Now we "just" have to upholster the back (which is currently open), but for now I've draped one of our fluffy rugs over it and you'd never know - unless you sat in it of course. At least it looks pretty for now.

That looks amazing! I have been looking for a chair...hopefully I will get lucky on my next thrift store trip.

P.S. I have done the same thing in the foam aisle at Joann - who knew it was so expensive?!

I am loving the fabric pattern you chose! Did you find that at Joann's too? You're making this look like a project that even I could do.... Great redo!

haha I was thinking it looked finished and was wondering why it said, "in progress". I get it now. :) I love it when I think about something for days and finally go back to get it. It's meant to be. Great job on the chair, it looks really nice.

Beautiful Alli! I reupholstered some dining chairs in a very very similar fabric, same colors! Great minds think alike :)

It looks great Alli! What a good find! Reupholstering intimidates me so I like to see that other people can do it, and do it well.

Wow, you are far braver than I am...it looks fabulous. If I did this, I'd probably ruin it.

Also, Q and Tiho seem similar in their need to be cajoled into certain "decor" purchases... ;)
